Vermont Neuroinclusive Employers Announced

Montpelier, VT –  At a time when employee burnout and turnover is at all-time high, many employers are seeking strategies for recruiting and retaining employees. All Brains Belong VT, a nonprofit organization on the forefront of innovative strategies to support neurodivergent people, announces its 2024 Neuroinclusive Employer Brightspotting Program Award winners:

  • Aubuchon Ace Hardware (Montpelier, VT)
  • LimeLite Restoration Services (Newport, VT)
  • United Way of Northwest Vermont (South Burlington, VT)
  • Vermont Assistive Technology Program (Waterbury, VT), a federally funded program within HireAbility VT, a Division of the Department of Disability Aging and Independent Living (DAIL)

At least 1 in 5 people thinks, learns, and/or communicates differently than the so-called “typical” brain. The Neuroinclusive Employer Brightspotting Program recognizes businesses that have been nominated by their own employees for creating workplace environments where people whose minds work in all kinds of ways can get their needs met and thrive.

Elements of neuroinclusive workplaces include physical environment, flexibility, recruitment and hiring practices, supervisory style, and workplace culture.

“When employees have their needs met, they are less likely to quit their jobs,” says Dr. Mel Houser, Executive Director of All Brains Belong. “Neuroinclusive employment – just as neuroinclusive healthcare and neuroinclusive education – benefits everyone. This is a paradigm shift of operating in ways that work for everyone, and don’t leave anyone out. Our award winners help us reimagine what’s possible for workplaces across Vermont.”

The 2024 Brightspots will be further recognized at this weekend’s 3rd Annual Community Health Education Fair, Saturday August 24, 2024 11am-3pm on the Vermont State House Lawn. In addition to a resource fair with 60 community organizations, activities for all ages and live music, this event will feature a Community Storytelling panel series on topics including healthcare, economic access, and workplace wellness.
